Get a Passport
"Life is a daring adventure or nothing." - Helen Keller
The resources in this section are focused on obtaining an American passport.
America has the lowest number of passports issued per capita than any other developed nation. By deciding to get yours you are stepping
forward and declaring yourself as more than just average.
Because of the new requirements put into effect beginning 2007, it can take up to 8 weeks or more to get your passport. Add more time if you need
to have your birth certificate re-issued. It is best to begin this process first, before the rest of your trip planning.

Where do I get a passport?

The most convenient place to get a passport is at nearly any
US Post office. Passports are no longer issued outside of the US, which means
if you loose yours while abroad, despite a trip to the embassy, the trip is over!
You can search for authorized
passport facilities
What is required?
A passport form is available here

Proof of US citizenship (birth certificate)

Photo Identification (drivers license, student ID, etc)

Two qualifying passport quality photos of yourself
What if I can't find my birth certificate?

You can request a
birth certificate here.
Where do I get the photos?

Many places offer passport photos for a fee, including the Post Office. It is difficult to take a qualifying photo yourself, so plan on letting an expert do
it right.
Once you have a photo, take it to a print shop and get a sheet of copies made for cheap. These come in handy for your visa applications
and for giving to officials at border crossings.
Want the easy way out?
OfficialTravelDocuments.com can walk you through it and get your birth certificate for you as well. They are actually reasonably priced.
Once I get my passport?

Take care of it! If it shows abuse or the picture fades, officials may raise eyebrows at border crossings and may even deny you entry

American passports are hot items on the black market. Store it in a safe or lock box,
